There are many things you need to consider to guarantee that your property is as secure as possible. Use the following tips to ensure that your property is not vulnerable to intruders.

• Safety Tips:
  Trim bushes and shrubs below window level.
  Install motion-detector lights around your property.
  Install and maintain smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors on your property.
  Make sure tools and ladders are put away so that an intruder cannot find and use them.
  Make your home look occupied by using timers on lamps, assigning someone to pick up newspapers and mail, and closing your blinds at night.
  Do not put your name or address on your key ring.
   
• Security Tips:
  Change locks (rekey) when you move to a new location or when, as an employer, you terminate an employee.
  Install door viewers (peepholes) on all exterior doors.
  Make sure doors are metal or solid wood, have solid cores, and reinforced frames and strikes.
  Make sure you have double deadbolts, (locks requiring a key from the inside as well as the outside) installed on doors that have glass in or near them (less than 40 inches away). When using keyed locks, make sure keys are easily accessible in case of an emergency. Do not leave your key in the lock at night.
  Install security bars on basement windows.
  Make sure hardware on all doors (including overhead, bulkhead, and sliding glass doors), is working properly.
